How To...

Get email from your company Web server

Having an email address @yourcompanydomain is an easy way to promote your business as well as increase your company's credibility. There are multiple ways to integrate your new site mail with your current mail, but the two most common are using redirects and fetching email from the POP server with your email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird and Eudora for example).

Forwarders

Forwarders are just what you'd expect from the name. They forward email to another email address. For example, all mail sent to youraddress@yourcompanydomain.tld will be forwarded to your current mailbox at Yahoo, Google, or your ISP. The mail you'll get from the Web site mail links will arrive with all the mail you currently get. Nothing has to change.

You may however decide to change the <reply to:> address in your mail client to show your company email address.

Getting Mail directly

Getting mail directly from your company email server is a bit more involved, but it allows you to have all your business email in a separate account, or on a separate machine (in the office for example).

You'll need the email account name, password and server name sent to you when you opened your hosting account. If you can't find it, request a new password here.

Once you have the information, find out how to configure your particular client here:

  • Outlook and Outlook Express
  • Thunderbird
  • Eudora
  • Most Other Clients
Web Based Mail

Your email can also be accessed though a Web page.

Ask us for the page where you can get your email online. The interface allows you to keep an online calendar and address book so you can access it 24/7 from anywhere you have Web access. (Similar to Yahoo or GMail)

Configure Internet Explorer for FTP Uploads

Open IE and from the Tools Menu, select Internet options. Select the Advance tab, scroll down to a checkbox labeled "Use Passive FTP (for DSL firewall compatibility)" Make sure this is OFF (unchecked).

You must now CLOSE and reopen IE. This sets IE to use active mode. Note: You should only have to do this once.

In Internet Explorer type in ftp://tulsawebresults.com/yourfoldername and type in your username and password

Either drag your files to the open folder, or copy and paste them in. That's it!

To download a file, right click on it and select "Copy to Folder" from the menu and select the folder on your hard drive where you want it saved.

General FAQ

How can I keep SPAM out of my email box?

Unfortunately, this is one of the biggest problems on the Internet. It seems the more we try to keep it out, the more clever these spammers get.

There are some tools to help, however.

Your hosting account includes "Spam Assassin" one of the most widely used and most accurate spam identification software packages. Spam Assassin will mark any SPAMlike mail coming to your account with the word <spam> (brackets included) in the subject line. You can simply delete any email you receive that contains or create a filter (see configurations above) and move it to a junk mail box on your desktop. Then you can go through it at your leisure and scan it for valuable mail.

How can I make changes to my Web site?

If your services include Web hosting, simply Contact Us and tell us what you want to change. Many small changes can be completed within your existing hosting contract. If larger changes need to be made, hourly rates will apply.

Some solutions provided by Tulsa Web Results allow site owners to make unlimited revisions to their site. Find out more.

Can I add extra services or content to my existing Web site?

Yes!

Your service contract can be undated at any time to reflect new services, a new site style, additional pages, or updated site content. Hourly rates will apply

How do I get my site listed in Search Engines?

Your hosting account includes submission to search engines, so your site has already been submitted and will be listed as soon as the webbots crawl your site. To improve the chances of your site being in search engine results pages (SERP) requires a combination of:

  • Sharp focus of site content on one subject or market niche
  • Increasing the number of Inbound Links (IBL) from other quality Web sites
  • Optimization of site links and code to further increase focus on your selected keywords

Some search terms are inherently more competitive so a higher listing will be more difficult to achieve, but optimization can help narrow the gap. Other measures include paying for placement in search engines, though this can be expensive.
